Spa treatment is becoming more and more popular these days. Spa treatment is not limited to beautification purpose, it offers several other benefits and this is one of the main reasons why most spa treatment is gaining such popularity. It can help to reduce stress, soothes your muscles, and provide overall relaxation for your mind and body. Visiting the spa provides an effective way of escapism from your tight work schedule to a world that is quiet and peaceful.

With spa treatments becoming more popular, the search to find new treatments to offer either inspired by the past or by modern research is on the rise. When a spa finds a new treatment they are often pioneers and the only ones to offer a unique service. Sometimes, more than often, being original can also mean being weird. I now present to you the strangest of the strange.

Clays can dry up and have the appearance of a powder or absorb water and look like a paste. In therapy the dry powder will be blended with water to activate its healing properties. Throughout history they have been used for pottery, musical instruments and for treating ailments. Hydrotherapy also known as spa treatments is the use of water to treat illness and relieve pain. The hydrotherapist will use hot and cold water to stimulate circulation to benefit the client. Inspired by balneotherapy , today’s spa worker may choose to enrich the water with minerals by adding clay, algae and mud. They may also enrich the treatment with massage, aromatherapy, sea salt exfoliations and oatmeal. A lot of ingredients for wraps can be found in nature or in our cupboards. For example, chocolate can be used to stimulate while honey can be used to soften skin.

Mud therapy also known as fangotherapy has been used for centuries in Europe to treat rheumatism and skin conditions. Today we can still find people enjoying its benefits in nature like in Israel at the Dead Sea or in various spas around the world. Some spas offer a bath uniquely filled with warm mud while others add some mud to a hot bath. It is also possible to experience it as a body wrap. The mud can be composed of peat moss, water from hot springs, volcanic ashes and its remineralizing qualities can help with a variety of ailments.

When I was planning my trip to Colombia, I started doing some research on sites to see. One thing that I came across was the San Antero volcano. This grabbed my attention. As I started to look more into it, I saw pictures and videos of people swimming in a pit of mud. Working in a spa, I am very aware of all the benefits of all different types of mud, but being in an area where volcanic mud is hard to come across I did not have the opportunity to try this one out. I told my boyfriend, who was also my tour guide that I had to go there.
